Consolidation of benefit levels and Y ellow Ribbon extension to Active Duty service members rolled out in August 2 020 and 2022, respectively. BENEFITS UPDATE The Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) helps you pay for school or cover expenses while you’re training for a job. To view the current Post-9/11 GI Bill rates, visit va.gov/ education. Learn about the criteria used to determine how much of the full benefit rate you will receive. You may be eligible for additional months of education benefits if you qualify under more than one program. Veterans with two or more distinct periods of qualifying active duty service may now receive up to 48 months of combined entitlement. To qualify, you must be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill and either the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD) or the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR). The MGIB-AD program provides financial assistance to Veterans who have served at least two years on active duty, helping cover the cost of education and training programs. If you qualify, MGIB-AD can support a variety of learning paths, from college degrees to vocational training. Note: You generally have 10 years from your last discharge or release from active duty to use your MGIB-AD benefits, though this timeframe may vary based on individual circumstances. The MGIB-SR program provides up to 36 months of education and training benefits to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Reserve, as well as the Army and Air National Guard. To qualify, you must have a six-year service obligation in the Selected Reserve or, if you’re an officer, have agreed to serve 6 years beyond your initial service obligation.
