Castle Dome Peak Difficulty: Hard Length: 5.4 miles Route type: Out & back What to expect: No shade, rocky, scramble, views This trail guides hikers through diverse desert terrain to the impressive Castle Dome Peak. It features rock formations, plenty of desert flora and breathtaking views that make the challenging ascent worth the effort. Know before you go: Getting here is tricky; you cannot access the trail from the west side or from Castle Dome Mine Museum. From Yuma, head north on US 95 for about 35 miles. Turn east onto Castle Dome Mine Road (heading toward the Castle Dome Mine Museum). After about seven miles, turn left onto McPherson Pass Road. 4-wheel drive and high clearance vehicles are best; a standard sedan won’t make it. Jester’s Trail Difficulty: Hard Length: 2.5 miles Route type: Out & back What to expect: Bird watching, dogfriendly, no shade, rocky, running, scramble, views, wildlife A steep, narrow, rocky path etched into the Gila Mountains, this trail leads to a summit marked by an American flag and offers a 360-degree view. It is not for the faint of heart or those who fear heights. Know before you go: Well-treaded shoes are best for this trail, as loose rocks can pose slipping hazards. Telegraph Pass Trail Difficulty: Hard Length: 5.7 miles Route type: Loop What to expect: Dog-friendly, mountain biking, no shade, partially paved, rocky, running, views, wildflowers Due to its steep sections and loose rocks, this trail is best suited for experienced hikers. It is also a very popular trail. Know before you go: The trail becomes more challenging as you progress. Once you reach the top, go to the bench and sign your name in the book.
