Here’s a little of what you can expect for large events in a typical year: First Saturday Each Month ■ Treasure the Beach Cleanup ■ First Saturday Art Walk (March through December) March: Spring Whale Watch Week Bring your binoculars to Ecola State Park, one of two dozen designated sites along the Coast, to watch for gray whales during their spring migration. Oregon State Parks volunteers help spot blowholes and answer questions. March: Oregon Ghost Conference Billed as the Northwest’s largest paranormal convention, visitors come from around the world for speakers, courses, tours and more. March: Jazz & Blues Live music fans can enjoy diverse forms of jazz at this three-day music festival. May: Seaside Downtown Spring Wine Walk Enjoy strolling and shopping in downtown Seaside while sipping from award-winning Northwest wineries. June-Sept.: Seaside Farmers Market Select the best of the season’s local produce, cheese, sweet treats, crafts and more at this open-air farmers market. June: Seaside Muscle and Chrome Car Show Check out the flashy cars — both builders and street cars — from 1979 and earlier at this longstanding coastal event. July: Miss Oregon Scholarship Pageant Community service, academic achievement and performing-arts talent will be celebrated at the 77th annual pageant, held at the Seaside Convention Center. July: 4th of July Celebrations & Beach Cleanup Seaside hosts one of the largest Independence Day celebrations on the West Coast, with a parade and fireworks starting at 10 p.m. Visitors are asked to pitch in and remove their trash afterward. July: Chalk Art Contest Tap into your creative side with a community-wide art event held on the historic Promenade. All ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to participate. Aug.: Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament With 200 courts, 2,000+ teams flock to the beach for this major annual event, which draws spectators from around the world for adrenaline-fueled fun. Aug.: Hood to Coast Relay Celebrations in Seaside mark the finish line for 16,000 runners and 3,600 volunteers at this annual race, which traces a 199-mile (320.3-km) route from Mt. Hood. Sept.: Seaside Wheels and Waves Car Show Cheer for hot rods and other classic cars and their owners as they cruise through town in this classic beachside event; entrants get to take part in a barbecue and ice cream social, too. Sept.: Salt Makers Return Re-creating the historic saltmaking expedition of 1806, the Lewis and Clark Salt Makers spend the weekend making salt by hand on the beach at Avenue U. Sept.: Seaside SandFest Witness the artistry of masterlevel sculptors as they create intricate and large-scale sand creations for all to enjoy. Oct.: Seaside Halloween Happenin’s Rain or shine, families can join in a host of free activities at downtown businesses, including a pet parade, face painting, and a giant pumpkin drop. Nov.: Seaside Downtown Fall Wine Walk Sip, stroll and shop in downtown Seaside. See spring event in May for info. Nov.: Seaside Parade of Lights This holiday tradition kicks off at 7 p.m. each Thanksgiving Friday with Santa and his elves, hot cider and cocoa, and good cheer to all. Nov.: Seaside Artisan Fair Kick off your holiday shopping season at this festive showcase of fine art, craft beverages and artisan gifts by local makers.
