CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: DON FRANK; SEASIDE VISITORS BUREAU; JEREMY BURKE / OCVA Revel in the Ride The area’s varied terrain makes it ideal for two-wheeled touring. You can set out on a classic cruiser or tandem bike along the 1.5-mile (2.4-km) paved Promenade as well as the many streets downtown, accessible to all. If you’ve never tried riding a fattire bike on the sand, Seaside’s firm, flat beaches are a great place to try. With more resistance in sand than on paved surfaces, it’s an awesome workout with stunning scenery. Both Wheel Fun Rentals and Prom Bike Shop rent surreys that can accommodate between two and nine people. Southeast of town, mountain bikers are loving the 12 miles (19 km) of fresh, flowy single-track found at Klootchy Creek. For gear and info, stop by Wheel Fun Rentals or Prom Bike Shop. Pets Are Welcome Here Wide-open beaches and friendly, laid-back patios — what’s not to love for pet owners in Seaside? Dogs on-leash are welcome to view the ocean on the patio at Mo’s.There’s also Bell Buoy of Seaside, Seaside Brewery and Big Kahuna Pub and Grill, all with pooch-friendly outdoor picnic tables, and Grizzly Tuna food cart, where you can ask for a dog treat with your fish tacos. In nice weather, order from the canine menu on Ruby’s Roadside Grill’s patio. If the weather has you and Fido feeling cooped up, head to the Gearhart Indoor Dog Park for some sheltered fun. For supplies, stop into Lyle’s Seaside Garden and Pet Center on Avenue J or Beach Puppy on Broadway. Doxie lovers should plan to attend the DachSand annual dog meetup in September, and you can join hundreds of corgis as they cavort in the sand at the Corgi Beach Takeover in June. When it’s time for the beach, know that dogs may run off-leash here, but you must maintain control of your pet and pick up their waste — find bags at various locations along the Promenade. If you head to any nearby Oregon State Parks, dogs are required to be on-leash at all times. At the end of the day, rest your head at comfy lodgings such as Inn at Seaside, Hi-Tide Oceanfront Inn or Ashore Hotel, all of which offer pet-friendly rooms. Check out Seaside Vacation Homes and Oregon State Parks campgrounds for more options. Tee Time Oregon’s North Coast is one of the oldest golf getaways on the West Coast, with the Scottish-style Gearhart Golf Links having been established in 1892. This windswept, 18-hole course set amid rolling coastal dunes features slick greens guarded by ample bunkers. Nearby Highlands Golf Club is a shorter (par 31) ninehole layout that’s especially popular with beginners.
