Oregon Coast Visitor Guide - 2024-2025

DUNCAN BERRY Artist and Environmental Activist The part of the Oregon Coast that Duncan Berry calls home is the inspiration for his work in both conservation and art. As both the co-director of the Cascade Head Biosphere Collaborative in Lincoln City and the creator of stunning nature prints, Berry channels the beauty and power that surrounds him. It’s “connecting people in a deeper way to the planet,” he says. Through the intersection of science and art, he teaches people to understand and appreciate the Salmon River, its estuary and the Pacific Ocean. He also leads printmaking workshops on the Cascade Head Biosphere Reserve and elsewhere. While he guides attendees on the traditional Japanese folk art of gyotaku, imprinting rice paper with inkbrushed creatures, Berry teaches about the natural world and how humans can best live in harmony with it. “While they’re using their hands, we’re filling their brains. They walk out ambassadors instead of sitting on the sidelines,” he says. See his work at ByLandBySeaByAir.com.
