140 HAWAII PARENT January/February 2025 Mo’olelo Studios, now located at Sacred Hearts Academy, is a theatrical performing arts school soon to feature a film studio with internship opportunities connecting students with local broadcast companies. According to Kyle Kakuno, the school’s artistic director, recent successful productions such as “Disney’s The Lion King”, “Disney’s Freaky Friday” and their own original musical “The Year Christmas Was Almost Cancelled” are by-products of the school’s main focus. Here are ten focal points of Mo’olelo Studios’ mission as an after school performing arts program. In the academic world, the performing arts are often overlooked as a necessity in the curriculum of a developing young mind. Nothing could be more erroneously thought, perhaps never more than in today’s smart phone staring world. If education is the key to the development of a society, the theatrical arts contribute more than its fair share of important and indispensable lessons to that curriculum. by Kyle Kakuno
