FAMILY DAY & OPEN HOUSE AT HAWAII MISSION HOUSES September 28, 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives (HMH) is hosting a free Family Day in celebration of local native plants and their uses. Central to the event will be HMH’s newly opened Hale Pili o na Mikanele made of pili grass, which is native to Hawaii. Also open to the public will be The Wood House, the oldest Western-style house in Hawaii; The Printing House, where Hawaiians and missionaries worked together to produce the first printed materials in the Hawaiian language; and The Chamberlain House, which once housed supplies and families, but today serves as the main exhibition hall for the museum. Festivities will also include hands-on activities and crafts, 19th century Hawaiian and Western games, and local entertainment.
