The Alaska Oil & Gas Historical Society (AKOGHS) is bringing our Haul Road Exhibit to Fairbanks! In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the completion of the Haul Road, we’ll be hosting an incredible exhibit called The Diary of the Haul Road: The People, the Papers, the Project. This exhibit will be open to the public at the Westmark Hotel in downtown Fairbanks from Sept. 28 to Oct. 28. The Haul Road Exhibit is a tribute to one of Alaska’s most significant engineering feats — the construction of the Dalton Highway, also known as the Haul Road. This exhibit showcases the remarkable story of how the 358-mile stretch from the Yukon River to Prudhoe Bay was built, highlighting the dedication, labor, and vision that made it possible. Explore a variety of artifacts, including the original 1974 Chevrolet Suburban, the first vehicle to traverse the entire length of the North Slope Haul Road. Historical photographs and documents, such as a letter from Governor William A. Egan to Nate Bauer, offer a glimpse into the collaborative efforts and personal achievements of those involved. The exhibit also honors N.E. Bauer, whose leadership and commitment left an indelible mark on Alaska’s history, as evidenced by heartfelt appreciations from his colleagues. AKOGHS will be hosting a welcome reception on the opening night of the exhibit on Sept. 28 from 5-7 p.m. We hope you can join us in honoring the pioneers of the Haul Road. We’ll see you in Fairbanks! Join us in Fairbanks to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Completion of the Haul Road! Dave Haugen’s book, “One Man’s Pipeline: Surveying to Startup,” chronicles his experiences on the Haul Road.
