THE LINK: OCTOBER 2024 34 Model offers great future for mines like Manh Choh Mining projects are making progress in Alaska. The new Manh Choh gold mine at Tetlin, east of Delta in Interior Alaska, is now at full production and ore is being trucked to the Fort Knox Mine northeast of Fairbanks to be processed in the Fort Knox mill. About 60 round-trips a day are being made with double tandem trucks on the Alaska and Richardson Highways, according to Meadow Bailey, spokesperson for Kinross Gold, which is 70% owner of Manh Choh and operator of the project. The other 30% is owned by Cantango ORE. The land is owned by the Tetlin tribe, so royalties from production go to the tribe. Despite apprehensions in the public there have been no problems so far with the ore trucking, Bailey said. Instead, there has been a benefit of having many trucks on the road with drivers in constant communication. In several cases the truck drivers have been first responders at road accidents and in one case a house fire was reported, she said. Manh Choh ore is high-grade, which makes it economic to truck it to the Fort Knox Mine.
