A favorite spot in the house is the living room. Here, as throughout the home, a tight move-in timeline called for blending readily accessible and custom design elements. To reinforce the Spanish look, Santa Barbara’s Steven Handelman made a wrought iron fire screen. It complements the curves of the scrolled beams above and coordinates with the sconces flanking the fireplace. In airy contrast, a visually discreet Lucite-and-glass coffee table provides a bi-level display for family travel treasures. Kari reupholstered her own sofas, using her rug from the apartment and other found pieces to finish the room. “It came together seamlessly and organically,” she says. The kitchen, another favorite, required more work. “I wanted a vintagestyle kitchen to feel as though it could have been part of the original home,” explains Kari.
