Pagano caught this wide-eyed fellow while traversing the grounds at Filoli in Woodside. “With its century-old oak trees and open meadows, I’m always fascinated by the array of wildlife that abound, such as black-tailed deer, acorn woodpeckers and wild turkeys,” he describes. On this particular day, he came upon two owls sharing a branch. “Believe me, I don’t know ‘whoo’ was more surprised— me or the owls!” Though one flew off, the other stuck around for Michael to admire. The great horned owl (also known as the tiger owl) is one of the largest in the Bay Area and can weigh up to four pounds. @paganografx
