When Reese Goodenough was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at six years old in 2016, her parents, Wyeth Goodenough and Sarah Rafanelli, along with her sisters, Sadie and Ellis, sprang into action to support the T1D community. Wyeth, a technology executive, served on the Breakthrough T1D Northern California Chapter Board for six years and played a key role in mobilizing corporate support. The family has spoken publicly about living with T1D and has championed the cause, raising awareness and funds for research at numerous high-profile events. Sports play a significant role in this family’s life. Sarah is a former soccer forward for the U.S. women’s national team, and Wyeth was the captain of the varsity tennis team at Northwestern. Sadie, Reese and Ellis are following in their parents’ footsteps as three-sport athletes. T1D has not slowed down Reese or her family; she proudly sports her insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor every time she steps onto a field. The Rafanelli Goodenough family will be honored with the Impact Award at the Breakthrough T1D Tee to Table event on May 9, 2025, at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay. The golf, pickleball and culinary event will feature a sports theme and promises to be a fun and inspirational evening, raising funds for T1D.
