There are three options for handrail use: inline, stair, and stand-alone. The inline handrail runs between posts in a straight or curved flat run. The stair rail runs continuously between the first and last post of a stair section, supported by handrail saddle brackets on the posts in between. The standalone option is typically mounted to a wall, but can also be mounted to the sides of posts at a slightly lower height than the top rail. Alternatively, the inline and stair options can be used as support rails. They will bear the tension of the cable infill and provide a flat surface for the wood to be mounted on. This prevents sagging, especially for thinner wood rails, and allows for easy top rail replacement.
