Spray, ’54 ’55, Bend, OR, Phi Kappa Psi • Richard Marvin Berry, ’55, Fort CARMEN FORD-PHILLIPS, ’59, M.S. ’63 Carmen Ford-Phillips died on Sept. 6 in Beaverton at age 88. Part of the Ford family, with deep ties to Oregon State, she earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics and a master’s in nutrition and food management from the university. She married Kent Phillips in 1958 and raised three children in Lake Oswego and, later, Corvallis.An accomplished entrepreneurwho owned two fabric stores and a quarter horse breeding facility, she believed strongly in giving back to the community and served as an Oregon 4-H Foundation trustee, as a trustee at Oregon Health & Science University, on the Ford Family Foundation board and in leadership roles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Before her death, she donated $7 million to OSU’s Marine Mammal Institute, ensuring future generations will benefit from its worldclass education and research. She is survived by her brother Allyn Ford; her children, Gerald Phillips, David Phillips and Kathryn (Phillips) Bauer; and seven grandchildren including Kristofer Bauer, ’20, and current OSU student Joshua Phillips.
