Spring2024 31 GREATS, REUNITED Final Four team of 1963 honored. Members of OSU’s 1963 men’s basketball Final Four team, including (left to right) Steve Pauly, Rex Benner, Jim Jarvis, Assistant Coach Jimmy Anderson, Mel Counts, Frank Peters and Jim Kraus were celebrated on Jan. 27 during OSU’s 84-71 win over Arizona State. The opponent was appropriate, as the 1963 Beavers routed the fourth-ranked Sun Devils 83-65 for the NCAAWest Regional championship. During the Final Four in Louisville, OSU lost to defending national champion No. 1 Cincinnati in the semifinals and No. 2 Duke in the third-place game. Anderson, whose connection to Beaver basketball as a player and coach spanned 65 seasons, died March 3 at age 86.
