BASKETBALL Trail Blazers Cheer along with some of the city’s most dedicated fans at the Moda Center, where you can watch the Pacific Northwest’s only NBA team rule the court. For over 50 years, the Trail Blazers have dazzled crowds and built a Rip City tradition. In its notable history, the team has advanced to the NBA Finals three times, winning the NBA championship once in 1977. And six Hall of Famers have played for the Trail Blazers. For home games, ardent fans fill the stadium sporting a sea of red and black and creating an electric atmosphere. BASEBALL Hillsboro Hops & Portland Pickles Summer in Portland is catching a game at a ballpark, and two local teams bring family-friendly fun to the baseball field. Since 2016 the Portland Pickles have drawn crowds to Walker Stadium in Lents Park, where you can meet the beloved 7-foot-tall pickle mascot and join in lively themes from Tattoo Tuesdays to Woof Wednesdays. The collegiate wood-bat baseball team is part of the West Coast League (WCL) — 17 teams from Oregon; Washington; and British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. About 14 miles west of downtown Portland, the Hillsboro Hops, a minor-league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, also fills the stadium at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro with energetic fans for home showdowns. ICE HOCKEY Winterhawks Come winter, the Portland Winterhawks remain a buzzworthy draw for ice hockey fans. The team (with star juniors ranging in age from 15 to 20 years old) plays home games at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. In their storied history, the Winterhawks have sent more than 100 players to the NHL, including Hall of Famers like Mark Messier and Cam Neely. They’ve also made a record 13 appearances in the WHL championship series — winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup three times and securing two Memorial Cup titles.
