GET UP & GO CRYSTAL SPRINGS RHODODENDRON GARDEN 5801 SE 28th Ave. 503.267.7509 CrystalSpringsGardenPDX.org The Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden in Portland began in 1950 when the local Rhododendron Society transformed an overgrown, five-acre site known as Shakespeare Island into a beautiful display garden. Located near Reed College, the garden flourished through the dedication of volunteers and support from Portland’s Parks Department. The first planting included two 40-year-old rhododendrons, honoring the late wife of Parks Superintendent C.P. Keyser. Over the years, the garden expanded and evolved, featuring more than 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas and companion plants. Visitors flock to see the stunning spring and summer blooms, while the fall foliage adds dramatic color. Neighboring Crystal Springs Lake, this accessible garden attracts wildlife and provides a breathtaking setting for weddings, events and peaceful strolls.
