ANGELA HASELTINE POZZI Founder, ReUPit & Art Park 101, Bandon When she founded Washed Ashore — a nonprofit organization that transforms ocean garbage into large-scale sculptures made from the debris — artist Angela Haseltine Pozzi never would have imagined she’d show the works at her own gallery and across the country. “I’ve always looked at things differently,” she explains. “I would get excited about things that were headed into the garbage can and think about what I could do with them.“ She retired in 2022, after many years with this marine educational campaign, to launch something new with daughter Nicola Bianca Pozzi. Located in the organization’s Bandon site, ReUPit opened in 2024. Expanding on Washed Ashore’s marine-debris recovery efforts, ReUPit rescues materials headed for landfills and transforms them into interactive sculptures. Visitors can browse the Polka Dot Thrift Shop, play a 100-year-old player piano, and explore the glowing sea cave Haseltine Pozzi built that educates about coral reefs and bioluminescent deep-sea creatures. Or just marvel at the centerpiece Bandonia sculpture, a phoenix embodying transformation and hope. Visit ReUPit.art to learn more.
