22 | Oregon Home STRUCTURE + STYLE | Build LANDSCAPE INSTALLATION Over $75,000 WINNER BLUEPRINT EARTH be.land A marshy, slope-plagued backyard in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood was transformed into an outdoor oasis. Terraced retaining walls of rough-cut juniper and site-welded steel tame the grade change, while a basin-shaped rain garden funnels runoff past native plantings into a Flo-Well dry well, so water soaks into the ground instead of flooding the yard or the street. A diagonal path ties the back door to the fire pit, sauna and spa; the existing chicken coop stayed right where it belongs.
