OREGON HIGHER ED BY THE NUMBERS: n In fall of 2022, 56.4% of high school graduates enrolled in a college or university, down from 63.3% in 2021 and from 64.1% in 2019. n By the fourth week of fall term in 2024, the total number of students enrolled at Oregon community colleges and public universities had risen by 3% from the previous year. Community colleges saw a larger increase in enrollment, with a 4.3% overall increase in headcount; at public universities in Oregon, headcount rose by 1.7%. Not all institutions saw increases. n 34% of students who applied for aid at public colleges and universities in 2021-22 could meet college expenses even after taking into account family contributions, student earnings and grant aid. n The most popular major at Oregon public universities in the 2023-24 academic year was business/ management/marketing, with 12% of students at all universities enrolled in a business program. n The most popular major at Oregon community colleges in 2022-23, the most recent academic year for which numbers were available, was liberal arts and sciences, with 44% of community college students declaring a liberal arts major.
