ARTS AND CULTURE MacLean. The gallery also hosts artist-led workshops throughout the year. At the Jeffrey Hull Gallery, meander multiple rooms that display work from the renowned artist. Over 50 years ago, Hull moved to Cannon Beach to surf, and the ocean’s edge became his forever home. He still walks the beach daily, finding inspiration for his watercolors, oils and giclée prints. Another hallmark is Icefire Glassworks. Jim Kingwell began blowing glass in the 1970s. In this gallery and hot shop, he shows his own work along that of co-owner Suzanne Kindland and about a dozen others. You’ll find blown, fused and hot-sculpted glass in the form of vases, sea creatures and more. Stop by Thursday through Sunday mornings to see the art of glassblowing in action. Beloved artist and author William Steidel helped shape the town’s identity as an arts colony in the early 1960s, eventually launching Steidel’s Art and creating numerous original artworks for the Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest for close to 60 years before his passing in 2024. This charming gallery and art studio, now led by Peter Dueber, showcases Steidel’s work through the decades. Down the block, find the perfect piece for back home at DragonFire Gallery. The gallery prides itself on displaying affordable works from dozens of regional artists across a variety of media, including paintings, glass pieces, ceramics and metal works. At Shearwater Studio & Gallery, Drea Rose Frost is often painting fishers at sea, surfers riding waves and other expressive seascapes in a sliver by the window, while her gallery assistant — a toy poodle named Freddie — greets guests. In addition to her work, Frost shows regional and local artists in a variety of mediums from driftwood sculptures by Josh Blewett to woodturned bowls by Brett Williamson.
