5 Greenberg’s Memories My Grandpa created a Christmas Eve tradition of spoiling my Grandma with gifts from Greenberg’s. Working here, I discovered he was a last-minute shopper, visiting the Sioux City store on December 22 or 23 to choose her gifts, often including Hearts on Fire jewelry—only the best for Grandma. He trusted Dwight Owen at the store, who I’ve since gotten to know and respect. My family in Iowa continues to work with Dwight, a testament to the memorable experience he provided. When I learned they were hiring in Sioux Falls, I was intrigued. It felt like an opportunity to connect with my Grandpa’s legacy. The interview felt like coming home, and I quickly moved to start my new adventure. Now, I relish in helping customers find joy for their loved ones, much like my Grandpa did. Though farther from my initial home, I’ve found a new family here at Greenberg’s and wouldn’t change a thing! I’ve been with Greenberg’s for almost 16 years, filled with great memories, but my first stands out the most. Living in Indianapolis, I had multiple phone interviews with Elise and planned to visit Sioux City to meet the owners. My wife, Carla, was against moving from Indy, given our four kids and white Labrador. After deciding to accept another job and informing Elise, she persuaded me to visit anyway. Meeting Elise, Amy, and Scott convinced me that this was where I needed to be. Calling Carla before heading home, I announced we were moving. I haven’t regretted that decision for a single day. I started working for Greenberg’s in 1998 in the office. The sales tickets were handwritten and entered in by one person at a time. We did have a small scanner to read the barcodes on the tags, which was convenient. During Christmas Elise helped us and brought in Alexa, who was under 10. She was my helper and stood next to me and scanned the barcodes for me. She was such a great little girl, and I enjoyed having her company. Good times! I will start with my Greenberg’s beginning. I started part time in 2002, just coming in to help Lisa with some extra projects. They would sit me in different places all the time. But if I was sitting in Ann Greenberg’s office we always had to be on the lookout for her to come in so I could hurry and move before she got here. I started full time in 2006. I had only met Ray Greenberg a few times but whenever he called in he always said Hi and asked how you were doing and just talked to you. Amy and Elise are the same way. They care as much about their employees as they do their company. I am going on 21 years of coming up to this office but I really do love it here. It truly is like a family.
