This small U.S. Forest Service area, with simple campgrounds and trail access, serves as the ferry stop where visitors step ashore before continuing 11 miles up a dramatic mountain road by village shuttle, or hiking in, to the heart of the North Cascades. Perched above the lake, Holden is a former copper mining town reborn in 1962 as a year-round Lutheran retreat center and welcoming wilderness community. Guests come for crisp alpine air, starry nights and programs that blend learning, arts and crafts, worship and service. Miles of hiking surround the village, and the setting invites quiet reflection in truly remote country. TRAILS There is so much to be discovered in Stehekin! It is a major entry way into the mountains, providing access to some of the best backpacking in the world. Trails range from short to long, including the Pacific Crest Trail which extends from Canada to Mexico. RAINBOW FALLS Up the valley from Stehekin is a beautiful waterfall that will take your breath away. From April to June, the water flows like liquid thunder. It captivates everyone and keeps them exploring. Check out this beautiful location for yourself! An ADA accessible trail was built in 2011 and offers views for visitors in a wheelchair.
