LAKE CHELAN VISITORS GUIDE 2026 7 #LakeChelan DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTH Drive south on Highway 97. Two roads lead to the lake - Highway 97A exit or a right at Highway 150 in Chelan Falls. FROM THE EAST Follow Highway 97 north along the east side of the Columbia River. Cross over the bridge, then take a left onto Highway 150. FROM THE WEST OR SOUTH Stevens Pass: Follow Highway 2 all the way through Leavenworth towards Wenatchee. Then, follow the Columbia River north on Highway 97A. Snoqualmie/Blewett Pass: Follow Interstate 90 from Seattle towards Ellensburg. Then, pass through Cle Elum to get onto Highway 970 until you’ve reached Highway 97 and Blewett Pass. Continue on to Highway 2 towards Wenatchee, where Highway 97A runs north into Chelan. Take the scenic route into the valley, on the Cascade Loop Scenic Highway. FOREST SERVICE CAMPGROUNDS The Chelan Ranger District and the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area feature 15 unique “boatin” campgrounds located along the stunning shores of Lake Chelan. CHELAN RIVER The Chelan River can be easily accessed near Riverwalk Park in Historic Downtown Chelan. This is one of the best spots for even the youngest anglers to fish right off the paved path. STEHEKIN RIVER At the head of Lake Chelan, the Stehekin River offers some of the Northwest’s best fly fishing, with catchand-release season opening March 1 (bait prohibited, single barbless hooks only), and regular season running July 1 to October 31 for native cutthroat and rainbow trout. COLUMBIA RIVER Only three miles from Chelan, down the scenic Chelan Falls Road (Hwy 150), you’ll find trout, walleye, catfish, salmon, and more in the Columbia! FRANK’S POND AT BEEBE SPRINGS Located on the Beebe Springs Wildlife Unit near Chelan Falls, this pond is open only to anglers under 15 and offers a great chance to catch rainbow trout. WAPATO LAKE Located 10 miles from Chelan in Manson, this local favorite is full of rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie. ANTILON LAKE Just up the road from Wapato Lake, Antilon Lake is a great spot for catching trout and crappie which keep the anglers returning every year. DRY LAKE Just outside Manson - well known for ice fishing. ROSES LAKE Located 10 miles from Chelan in Manson, this sought after lake has rainbow trout, bass, and catfish. ECHO RIDGE SUMMER TRAILS LENGTH 25 MILES What was originally designed for skiing, snowshoeing, and winter activities has now become a hot spot for hiking. With nearly 30 miles of combined trails, you can easily find a hike suitable for any age or experience level. Easy Family Hike The Pops: 1.3 to 2.3 miles - rolling terrain and big views. 4TH OF JULY MOUNTAIN LENGTH 2.5 MILES Arguably the best day hike in the lower Lake Chelan Basin, Fourth of July Mountain is an easy drive from downtown Chelan. The elevation gain is steady but never extreme, with summit views that are spectacular. Drive: Approximately 30 minutes from Chelan. How to get there: Drive to Antilon Lake north of Manson. Park alongside the road near the large earthen dam at the south end of Antilon Lake. Walk across the top of the dam. The trail begins on the west side and angles up the hill. ELEPHANT HEAD LENGTH 4 MILES Climbing almost 1,200 feet in two miles, Elephant Head is a Lake Chelan Valley must. The majority of the gain occurs within the first mile and is perfect for sunrise hikes. Drive: Approximately 5 minutes from Chelan. RIVERWALK PARK LOOP TRAIL LENGTH 1 MILE This one-mile path loops between two bridges that span the Chelan River in Historic Downtown Chelan. Planet Walk: The Lake Chelan Planet Walk begins on the west side of the Dan Gordon Bridge. You will see the first Planet Walk sign (the Sun) as you approach the Riverwalk Trail. At just over 2.4 miles round-trip, the walk is approachable for those of most fitness levels. Wear a good pair of walking shoes, appropriate clothing, and bring a curious mind. How to get there: The trail is part of the park adjacent to the main business district of Chelan. Access points along the trail include Columbia at Woodin, Wapato at Emerson and Okanogan at Emerson. CHELAN RIVER (REACH 1) TRAIL LENGTH 3 MILES This three-mile round-trip walk overlooks the Chelan Dam. It takes travelers from the Riverwalk Loop Trail, located in downtown Chelan, to the upper most section of the four-mile river that flows down to join the Columbia River at Chelan Falls. How to get there: Begins at Riverwalk Park Boat Launch. UPPER GORGE TRAILS LENGTH 2.5 - 5 MILES Lake Chelan‘s newest trail system, the Upper Gorge Trail, gives adventurers a decent elevation gain and beautiful views. Drive: Approximately 3 minutes from downtown Chelan. How to get there: From downtown Chelan, drive east on 97A, across the Dan Gordon Bridge. Take a left onto Farnham Street, follow the road as it turns into S. Sanders St., and then E. Iowa St. You will find the trailhead on your left. BEEBE SPRINGS WILDLIFE AREA LENGTH 4.4 MILES Visit Beebe Springs Wildlife Area for over 207 acres of outdoor adventure on the Columbia River shoreline. Take in the beauty and see extensive habitat restoration that will continue for several more years. Drive: 5 minutes from Chelan. How to get there: From Chelan, drive 3 miles east on Highway 150 to the junction with Highway 97. Head north on Highway 97 until you reach the parking lot. POT PEAK LENGTH 9.5 MILES Both challenging and easily accessible from Chelan, the Pot Peak Trail is a good option for hikers looking to get a good workout by shedding calories. Drive: Approximately 30 minutes from downtown Chelan. How to get there: From Chelan, take Highway 97A south 4 miles to South Shore Road. Continue west on South Shore Road to 25-Mile Creek area. LITTLE BEAR TRAIL LENGTH 2.3 MILES The Little Bear Trail at Lake Chelan State Park is a little over two miles, making it the perfect family afternoon hike. The trail begins near campsite 22 and makes only a small gain in elevation, enough to offer unparalleled up lake views. In the springtime, visitors are rewarded with wildflowers that run rampant. This is a small hike that packs a big punch, offering something new with each season. Drive: 15 minutes from downtown Chelan. How to get there: Take Highway 97A south for three miles. Turn right on South Lakeshore Rd (Hwy 971). Proceed six miles on Lakeshore Rd and turn right into Lake Chelan State Park. MOUNTAIN BIKING There is excellent bike riding throughout the Lake Chelan Valley. There are new trails combined with old trails, creating some of the best existing adventures in Central Washington. The trail system is conveniently located 9 miles from Chelan at Echo Ridge and gives easy access to riders, ranging from only a few miles to over 20 miles. All trails are well marked, have maps posted, and are well worth exploring.
