The fishing fleet is always coming and going to deliver fish, and head out for another catch. The Port of Kodiak is the state’s largest and most diverse fishing port and is consistently ranked among the nation’s top four commercial fishing centers. Kodiak’s fleet consists of over 700 boats, and most of them are owned by local individuals and have been passed down through families for generations. It’s a source of deep pride. And where there are mariners, there are rescuers. Just south, the U.S. Coast Guard’s largest base stands ready. Cutters, helicopters and aircraft conduct vital patrol and rescue ops statewide. They provide critical communications, navigation, training, regulation and safety services that are all part of their far-reaching mission.
