Youth Education 92 SCHOOLS & CLASSES (CONTINUED) HALE KEIKI SCHOOL Hale Keiki (meaning “House of Children”) School has been supporting military families since 1946 and is located close to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. HDOE has partnered with Tutor.com to provide free online tutoring to 8th grade public school students across the state. Students may receive tutoring and homework help in various subjects, including core class support and test preparation. Click on the U.S. Military tab at the top of the home page for more details. The platform is available for students to use 24/7, and students may login using their clever.com/in/hawaii credentials. MILITARY INTERSTATE CHILDREN'S COMPACT COMMISSION While the armed services have made great strides in easing the transition of personnel, spouses and, most importantly, children, much remains to be done at the state and local levels to ensure that the children of military families are afforded the same opportunities for educational success as other children. The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (MIC3) addresses these concerns. Find details on MIC3 and also the Joint Venture Education Forum under Enrollment, the Quick Start section and Military Families. REGISTRATION & REQUIREMENTS Your child’s school depends on where you live. That same HIDOE website Enrollment section features a Quick Start section where you can click on How To Enroll, Find Your School or Enrollment FAQs. Or contact your service’s School Liaison Officer. If living in temporary quarters, register your child in a permanent district by requesting a “District Exception” stating a need for continuity in the child’s education. If not seeking an exception, you must register your child in the school closest to your temporary quarters. The Hawaii School Attendance Law stipulates that all students meet certain health requirements before HKS currently serves students in preschool (age 3-4), prekindergarten (age 4-5), and kindergarten through sixth grade. We take pride in delivering quality early childhood education for every student in a safe and nurturing environment. Our ohana setting is built on a foundation of trust, respect and accountability, prioritizing social, emotional and academic growth. The school is open to all children and gives priority enrollment to military dependents, maintaining an enrollment of 95% military dependents, with civilian enrollment at 5%.
