Health Care 162 The Continued Health Care Benefit Program also provides temporary health coverage for 18-36 months when you lose eligibility for TRICARE. HOW TO ENROLL Three options for new enrollments into TRICARE plans are also applicable for TRICARE Open Season enrollments and Qualifying Life Event enrollments. You will need a Common Access Card (CAC), a Defense Financial and Accounting Services (DFAS) myPay PIN or DS Logon to log in to the Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE) website. Once enrolled, you can log in to milConnect to download your enrollment card, and get your PCM’s name and phone number. To update your home address, email address, or phone number: • Log in to milConnect, navigate to the Benefits tab, and select Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE) • Or call TriWest Healthcare Alliance at (888) 874-9378 BENEFICIARY WEB ENROLLMENT TRICARE’s Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE) site Tricare.mil/BWE, allows sponsors to manage medical and dental enrollments and update their DEERS information online at any time. Please be aware that online enrollment may be subject to Military Treatment Facility guidelines. If you are unsure about your options or eligibility, it is recommended that you contact your local TRICARE Service Center for assistance. To access the BWE system, beneficiaries must have either a valid Common Access Card, a Defense Finance and Accounting Service MyPay personal identification number, or a DS Logon. The DS Logon is an account that can be set up by the active duty sponsor for eligible family members who are 18 years of age or older. It is important to keep your DEERS record up to date whenever any personal information changes or after experiencing a Qualifying Life Event. These events, and how they may affect TRICARE eligibility, are explained in detail in official TRICARE publications available through authorized resources. OPEN SEASON TRICARE Open Season is the annual period when eligible beneficiaries can enroll in or make changes to their TRICARE health plans. It is usually held each fall, beginning on the second Monday in November and ending on the second Monday in December. During Open Season, you can enroll in a TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select plan if you are eligible, change your current plan such as switching from Prime to Select or vice versa, or disenroll from your TRICARE plan. However, disenrolling may result in the loss of coverage unless you have another health plan. If no action is taken during Open Season, your current TRICARE coverage will continue into the next year as long as you remain eligible. Open Season applies to active duty family members, retired service members and their families, and members of the National Guard and Reserve and their families who use TRICARE Reserve Select or TRICARE Retired Reserve. Open Season does not apply to active duty service members, who are automatically enrolled in TRICARE Prime, nor does it apply to individuals who use TRICARE For Life or those enrolled in premium-based plans such as TRICARE Young Adult or TRICARE Reserve Select unless otherwise specified. Outside of Open Season, you can only make changes to your health plan if you experience a Qualifying Life Event. Examples of Qualifying Life Events include marriage, the birth or adoption of a child, loss of other health insurance, or a change in residence. These events may allow you to update or change your coverage outside of the regular enrollment period. TRICARE SERVICE CENTER Your local TRICARE Service Center is also available to explain the differences between TRICARE options, and to help you select the most appropriate program for you
