To qualify, you must be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill and either the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIBAD) or the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR). The Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD) program provides financial assistance to Veterans who have served at least two years on active duty, helping cover the cost of education and training programs. If you qualify, MGIB-AD can support a variety of learning paths, from college degrees to vocational training. Note: You generally have 10 years from your last discharge or release from active duty to use your MGIB-AD benefits, though this timeframe may vary based on individual circumstances. The Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) program provides up to 36 months of education and training benefits to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Reserve, as well as the Army and Air National Guard. To qualify, you must have a 6-year service obligation in the Selected Reserve or, if you’re an officer, have agreed to serve 6 years beyond your initial service obligation. Even if you previously relinquished your MGIB-AD or MGIB-SR benefits, you may now be eligible to use a portion of that entitlement based on your service history.
