150 Hawaii Parent March/April 2026 Honolulu Zoo Gunstock Ranch Located on the North Shore, Gunstock Ranch is the perfect spot for family-friendly activities. Kids can enjoy pony rides, complete with petting and brushing the horse after a 25-minute walk around the ranch. Older children (7+) and adults are welcome to choose from many options, including a scenic horseback ride, sunset ride, picnic ride, and more! If you’re interested in learning the fundamentals of horseback riding, their horse-manship experience is perfect for you. You’ll work with a Gunstock wrangler to learn about horses and get some hands-on experience. Parents and kids are welcome to join in on the fun, and they even offer group horsemanship experiences for those who want to learn with friends. From pink flamingos to African giraffes, the Honolulu Zoo has a little bit of everything from the animal kingdom. It homes an animal population that includes over 64 reptiles, 38 mammals, and 160 bird species. The 42-acre facility is organized into three tropical ecological zones: Tropical Rainforests, Pacific Islands, and the African Savanna. There’s also a children’s petting zoo with donkeys, goats, llamas, and more for your avid animal lover. Check out the recently renovated primate islands, where lemurs and gibbons climb their new climbing structures and ropework, and new landscaping and rock work. If you’re in the neighborhood on the weekend, be sure to enjoy the works of local contemporary artists and craftspeople at the Honolulu Zoo Art Mart.
