A NEW CHAPTER WITH THE DORIS DUKE FOUNDATION AND SHANGRI LA THIS COMMITMENT TO GROWTH CONTINUES THROUGH A MAJOR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DORIS DUKE FOUNDATION AND SHANGRI LA MUSEUM OF ISLAMIC ART, CULTURE & DESIGN. The Foundation has sponsored enhancements at Ballet Hawaii West, improving each studio's sound technology while also introducing new scholarship opportunities for young dancers—expanding access to high-quality training in West Oʻahu. The partnership extends beyond the studio and into one of Hawaiʻi’s most iconic cultural spaces. Ballet Hawaii collaborated on the unveiling of the museum’s newly renovated Living Room, transforming the historic estate founded by Doris Duke into an intimate and unexpected stage for arts and entertainment. EXPANDING ACCESS AND INCLUSION INTO THE COMMUNITY Through its partnership with the Hawaii Autism Foundation, the organization introduced sensory-conscious performances designed to welcome individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. By creating a more flexible, supportive environment, Ballet Hawaii is helping ensure that the experience of live performance is accessible to more members of the community than ever before. In addition, Ballet Hawaii will begin new work this year with Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, introducing movement-based experiences designed to bring joy and inspiration into healthcare settings, and looking forward to expanding into movement therapy programs for youth. 74 Hawaii Parent July/August 2026
