HOST A FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT THAT FEELS LIKE A SPECIAL EVENT Make it intentional to make it special. Let each child take turns choosing the film, create simple “tickets” out of paper, and set up a snack bar with popcorn, fruit, and whatever treats you have on hand. Dim the lights, pull out extra blankets, and sit close together. These small details turn an ordinary evening into a shared experience. Over time, it becomes one of those traditions children look forward to. TRY A “YES DAY” OR “YES AFTERNOON” The idea is simple. For a set period of time, you say yes to your child’s reasonable requests. They might want pancakes for lunch. Or to wear pajamas all day. They may want to turn the living room into a dance floor. The answer to all of these reasonable requests is yes. Setting clear boundaries ahead of time keeps things manageable. But within limits, the freedom feels expansive. 150 Hawaii Parent July/August 2026
