Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve has some of the best snorkeling on Oahu. HANAUMA BAY NATURE PRESERVE Around the winding bend, you will come to one of Oahu’s top destinations – Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve (https://www.honolulu.gov/parkshbay/home.html). Reservations must be made ahead of time, but active duty U.S. military members and their dependents get free admission. The crescent-shaped bay is best in the mornings before the parking lot is packed. Or, if you hit it in the afternoon when many snorkelers are calling it a day, the lot loosens up. All visitors are required to view a conversation video in the education center before descending to the bay 150 feet below. A tram operates in both directions for those hauling gear or needing to avoid hill hiking. Snorkel rentals, a gift shop and a concession stand are also offered at the park. Almost all restaurants on East Oahu have amazing views – from the marina to the lush mountainside. And, with options like a sitdown pub to perfect date night spots, it’s easy to eat the days away.
