Offsetting the recent use cap to 36 months is an increase of the monthly DEA payment. Those first enrolled in classes before Aug. 1, 2018 are still entitled to a maximum of 45 months of benefits. If qualifying for both DEA and the Fry Scholarship, you must make a single choice and maintain it. Exception: If you’re the child of a service member who died in the line of duty before August 1, 2011, you can use both DEA and the Fry Scholarship with up to 81 months of education and training. You must use one program at a time. Military tuition assistance is available and pays the cost of tuition and additional fees for most active duty service members. Each service branch determines eligibility criteria. All Active Duty Service Members (including Guard and Reserve) must contact their Education Service Officer (ESO) or Education Counselor within your branch of service prior to enrolling in any college or university.
