The Alaska Miner - Spring 2024

www.AlaskaMiners.org 57 Fairbanks Convention: Award Winners to return to normal following the pandemic. He knew that the Fairbanks branch membership was eager to resume meetings, but finding a venue kept presenting challenges. He channeled his best resource — his lovely wife Debbie, who managed the Fairbanks Curling Club. Together they put forward meetings from start to finish — opening the club at the early meeting hours, Debbie even prepared breakfasts for the attendees most days! This winner managed the people, the signups, the meeting speakers, the announcements to the membership, every event management point from A to Z. Over the last 20 years, he has served, multiple times, as the President of the Fairbanks Alliance Chapter. He has also served several terms on the Statewide Board of the Alaska Support Industry Alliance. In this capacity, he’s been a tireless advocate for resource development issues: attending public hearings, testifying on behalf of Alaska’s oil, gas and mining industries, writing legislators about critical issues facing these industries, working to defeat ballot measures that would harm these industries, interacting on a regular basis with Alaska’s congressional delegation to educate them on issues facing oil, gas and mining in Alaska — and so much more! He has always been a leader, whether he actually holds an official title or not, he has been involved in membership recruitment, ensuring excellent attendance at events and serving as the emcee for most Alliance events in Fairbanks over a 20 year period — and always with a great attitude, a joke, a smile and enthusiasm for the task at hand. It’s hard to imagine anyone who more exemplifies the spirit of advocating, on all fronts, for Alaska’s oil, gas, and mining industries. It would be a fitting tribute as he winds down his career to present him with the Golden Heart Service Award. Finally, he also put countless hours into the 2024 Spring Convention in Fairbanks, serving on the committee, offering ideas, and volunteering himself for dozens of tasks. One of the most (or only) fun tasks was arranging the Learn to Curl with AMA event, in which he set up the event with the facility, marketed it, arranged for coaches to come in, and ended up facilitating the AMA Board meeting that was tacked onto it. Everyone who knows Ken Hall knows that his attitude and personality are infectious, and his presence in every room, on every committee, makes lives easier and people happier. The definition of Golden Heart Service.
