www.AlaskaMiners.org 31 AMA Board Members: Kenai & Nome Kenai Bill Bieber William Bieber has over 35 years of mining experience holding numerous management positions in production, exploration and development. His experience has provided him with a vast amount of knowledge in all phases of the mining cycle. Mr. Bieber has participated in project development and operational phases that began in Montana and included numerous over seas assignments and ending up in Alaska. Mr. Bieber spent his early childhood raised on a farm from a farming and ranching community and shortly after high school began working in a gold mine in Montana during the construction phase. He completed medical school and became a Nationally Registered Paramedic and National Examiner in 1989 while he was working full time at the mine. In 1996 Mr. Bieber was transfered to Alaska to aid in the development of the Donlin Creek Project now know known as Donlin Gold. The Donlin Gold Project is located in the remote South Western area of Alaska and is on the Native corporation lands belonging to the Calista Native Corporation and The Kuskokwim Native Corporation. This area contains 57 villages, the majority of whom are Yupik people. In 2001 Mr. Bieber left Donlin and went to work for Teck Comminco to help with the constrcution of the Pogo Mine. In 2005 Mr Bieber returned to the Donlin Project to manage the onsite operations until 2013 when he left the Donlin Project to begin working for the University of Alaska as Executive Director of the Mining and Petrolium Training Service. Alan Noraker I have lived in Alaska since 2001, I started out as a fishing guide on the Kenai River before transitioning into the industrial rotating equipment industry in 2011. I work as a field service mechanic, fabricator, project consultant, and inside/ outside sales. I cover most large-scale mining operations across the state, as well as the Oil and Gas industry, municipal water, and power generation sectors. I do a lot of work with project managers and engineers to design, build and install pumping equipment. I went to UAA for a bachelor’s degree in business management. My hobbies include hunting and fishing with my two daughters, Allie, 10, and Carllie, 7. Houston Morris Houston Morris is second vice president of AMA. Nome Chairman Ken Hughes Lifetime Alaskan with 40 year Seward Peninsula residency currently employed managing Northwestern Operations for General Refining Corporation with additional interests in placer mining (Arctic Placer Drilling & Mining) and satellite communications (Stargate Alaska). Long time AMA member, previously Chair of AMA Nome; President, Nome Chamber of Commerce; Teller Mayor; Currently Nome Planning Commission Chair; Nome Chamber of Commerce Director. With Wife Emily raised in Teller 4 children; now there are 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children. Hobbies include travel, photography, hockey and scuba diving. John Reid I have been actively Placer mining for 15 years and plan to do so until my day comes. Raising my children to be the next generation of Placer miners. John Odden John is a partner in Sample Archive System and a new member of the Nome board of directors. Blake Bogart Blake Bogart is first vice president of AMA.
