Edible Seattle Spring 2025

edible seattle | Spring 2025 29 CUT ME OUT! LET’S GATHER: • scissors • paper • crayons • glue or stapler • 3 in x 3 in square planting pot (the lower half of a cardboard milk carton with holes poked through the bottom also works well) • seed-starting mix to fill the pot • chive seeds LET’S GET STARTED: 7. Place the pot on a sunny windowsill and wait 8 – 10 days for your chives to come up. 8. As they grow, cut off the tops of the chives to make different hairdos for your character. 1. Cut out a 3 in x 3 in paper square. 2. Draw a face on the square, but don’t draw any hair. Leave the top of the head open because this is where the “chive hair” will grow. 3. Glue or staple the face to one side of the planting pot. 4. Fill the pot with seed-starting mix. 5. Sprinkle the chive seeds over the seedstarting mix and cover the seeds with a thin layer of seed-starting mix. 6. Give your seeds enough water each day to keep the seed-starting mix slightly moist.
