Sunriver Visitor Guide 2026-27

A visit to Sunriver is enhanced by discovering the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. This more than 60-mile route features access to 13 pristine alpine lakes and offers remarkable views of the Cascade Mountains. Travelers may opt to complete the loop in about three hours or dedicate an entire day to exploration. Reservations are available to stay the night or a few days at rustic resorts equipped with contemporary amenities. If you are traveling with children, create a scavenger hunt by listing the sights along the way and seeing how many they can find. Guests can prepare a picnic and select a scenic location for dining, or choose to dine at establishments such as Mt. Bachelor, Elk Lake Resort, Cultus Lake, Crane Prairie Reservoir, or Twin Lakes Resort. Itinerary planning can be tailored to preferred activities: begin the morning with a hike, enjoy lunch, and spend the afternoon swimming, kayaking or paddleboarding. Numerous fishing sites and photography opportunities exist, notably at Sparks Lake, which was frequently captured by Oregon photographer laureate Ray Atkeson. The Ray Atkeson Memorial Trail is a 2-mile hike with stunning views of Sparks Lake and Mt. Bachelor. To fully appreciate the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, visitors are encouraged to proceed leisurely to admire the emerald waters of Devils Lake, the rugged contours of Broken Top, and the panoramic views from Elk Lake. For additional information, begin your excursion at Visit Central Oregon’s office located in The Village at Sunriver and ask for the Oregon Scenic Byways guide.
