Visitors to the Nature Center can meet animal ambassadors up close, including raptors, reptiles, amphibians, and other species that represent the diverse life of the High Desert. Engaging displays highlight the ecosystems of Central Oregon, and guests can explore a fascinating collection of meteorites from outer space. The Observatory is one of Sunriver’s most extraordinary attractions, home to the largest collection of public telescopes in the United States. Daytime visitors can safely observe the sun through specially filtered solar scopes, view sunspots, and learn about the powerful star that makes life on Earth possible. When night falls, the experience becomes unforgettable. Sunriver, the first designated International Dark Sky Place in Oregon, is an ideal setting for stargazing. Knowledgeable astronomers guide guests through breathtaking views of the moon, planets, star clusters, and distant nebulae, inspiring both first-time visitors and seasoned skywatchers alike. SNCO’s mission extends beyond its campus through community programs like Project Ponderosa, which supports landscape restoration with native Ponderosa pine seedlings, and Second Tern Thrift Store, where proceeds help fund SNCO’s education, wildlife care, and conservation efforts. Throughout the year, SNCO hosts a wide range of events and programs, including family activities, bird walks, lectures, workshops, and seasonal festivals.
